The Pleasure Trap
How to Rewire Our Understanding of HappinessDescription
Happiness was never meant to look the same for everyone.
What makes one person happy may not bring joy to another. Even for ourselves, what we long for today may not be what satisfies us tomorrow.
Imagine we spend our lives climbing mountain after mountain, believing that once we reach the top, we'll finally feel complete. Yet every climb is soon followed by another mountain waiting to be climbed.
The problem is not that we have not climbed enough.
The problem is expecting this dunya to provide a kind of fulfillment it was never created to give.
Allah (s.w.t.) reminds us:
“This worldly life is no more than play and amusement. But the Hereafter is indeed the real life, if only they knew.” (Surah Al-'Ankabut 29:64)
When our hearts are anchored in seeking His pleasure above all else, we’ll soon realize that no amount of worldly pleasures can offer us such contentment.
Afterall, true permanence has never belonged to this world. It belongs to the Hereafter.
